Mr. Johnson was written on February 1st and was my first FAWM entry. For a long time I had this groove in 11/8 in my head, and finally I managed to make it into a song. I do have a cat, but I don’t live in a place where he can go out on adventures, so this is just how I imagine he would be. The chorus is in 7/8 because why not!
lyrics
Mr. Johnson’s out today,
Playing with another stray,
This time it’s the black and grey.
They’re grooving on the neighbour’s fence,
I’m looking at them through my lense,
The garden birds are getting tense.
Mr. Johnson’s coming in,
Satisfied, and with such a grin,
Catching prey is not a sin.
Sleeping most of the day, then out at night,
Where all cats are grey, and out of sight,
Eyeing his prey, he’ll be alright.
Mr. Johnson likes it here.
He’s purring, so it’s pretty clear,
He likes to be within our sphere.
Sleeping most of the day, then out at night,
Where all cats are grey, and out of sight,
Eyeing his prey, he’ll be alright.
Bringing mice to our door,
There is no need to go to a store,
He is a hunter down to the core, He’ll be alright.
Mr. Johnson’s out of food,
But he’s king of the neighborhood,
People like to do him good.
Sleeping most of the day, then out at night,
Where all cats are grey, and out of sight,
Eyeing his prey, he’ll be alright.
Bringing mice to our door,
There is no need to go to a store,
He is a hunter down to the core, He’ll be alright.
Mr. Johnson’s out today,
Playing with another stray,
Yet again it’s the black and grey.
