about

The Explorers was written on February 10th. Often when I don’t have a plan for how to come about a song, I default to science fiction. This one is about a dreamer, who can’t get far enough away from everybody else. This is also taken to the extreme.

lyrics

Let’s go join a rocket crew,
Fly into space.
No need to stand in queue
In the human race.

We would be among the few,
We could settle Mars.
It would just be me and you,
Out among the stars.

It’s time to leave the Earth behind,
This planet’s too far gone.
It’s far too late to press rewind,
Better to move on.

On Mars we can start again,
We could build a new home.
It wouldn’t matter where we'd been,
We could live in a dome.

We could go mine an asteroid,
Strike it rich in gold,
Drift along into the void,
Together we’d grow old.

And we could leave Mars behind,
The planet’s lost it’s cool.
It’s getting way too intertwined
With Earth, it’s lost its self-rule.

We could explore the universe,
Leave our system behind.
No place too far to traverse,
I know you wouldn’t mind.

It’s time to leave the stars behind,
Live on another plane.
So say goodbye to mankind,
It’s time to break the chain.
